Illustrated Advent Calendars for Finnish Heart Association
These illustrated Advent calendars are printed in A4 size on both sides. Each calendar forms a continuous visual and narrative experience: the doors open to reveal illustrated interiors, while the story continues on the reverse side of the calendar.
🇫🇮 Käytin näissä Suomen Sydänliitolle suunnittelemissani joulukalentereissa hyväksi painoarkin molemmat puolet. Avautuvat luukut ovat osa tarinaa, joka jatkuu luukkujen ovien kääntöpuolella.
2025 Calendar: Bear cannot sleep
In the story, Bear has travelled to Finnish Lapland, to Korvatunturi — the legendary mountain home of Santa Claus — seeking a quiet place for his winter hibernation.
But his rest is soon disturbed by a mysterious sound echoing through the forest, drawing him into an unexpected adventure.
🇫🇮 Tarinassa Karhu on matkannut Korvatunturille etsiessään rauhallista paikkaa talviunilleen. Mutta hänen lepoaan häiritsee pian outo melu, joka johtaa odottamattomaan seikkailuun.
2024 Calendar: Wake me up at Christmas
In this story, Squirrel wakes up on the first day of December and realizes, with a start, that Christmas is just around the corner. He has promised Bear that when Christmas comes, he will be there to wake him from his winter rest.
But before that can happen, there is much to do. Bear’s home lies deep in the forest, and along the way Squirrel must gather friends, prepare for the celebration, and make sure everything is ready in time. With each day of December, the forest stirs, plans take shape, and the quiet anticipation of Christmas slowly grows.
🇫🇮 Orava herää joulukuun ensimmäisenä päivänä ja tajuaa säikähtäen, että joulu on jo aivan nurkan takana. Hän on luvannut Karhulle herättävänsä tämän talviunilta joulunjuhlintaan.
Ennen sitä on kuitenkin paljon tehtävää. Karhun koti sijaitsee syvällä metsässä, ja matkallaan Oravan on kerättävä ystävät koolle, valmistauduttava juhlaan ja huolehdittava siitä, että kaikki on ajoissa valmista.
2023 Calendar: Awoken by Ringing Bells
In this calendar, Hedgehog is awakened by the sound of an alarm clock and reluctantly crawls out of bed. He turns the alarm off, but the sound continues — soft chimes drifting in from outside.
Curious and slightly annoyed, Hedgehog opens the door and steps into a snowy December afternoon. The yard lies silent under a thick blanket of snow — and in the dim light, a red-capped figure appears.
🇫🇮 Siili herää herätyskellon ääneen ja kömpii vastahakoisesti ylös vuoteestaan. Hän sammuttaa kellon, mutta kilinä jatkuu, sillä ääni kantautuu ulkoa.Hieman ärtyneenä Siili avaa oven ja astuu lumiseen joulukuun iltapäivään. Piha lepää hiljaisena paksun lumipeitteen alla – ja hämärässä valossa näkyy punalakkinen hahmo.
2022 Calendar: Making Christmas Together
In the 2022 calendar, Bear and Fox are in the kitchen, preparing Christmas foods. The room is far from ready for the holidays — cleaning supplies are everywhere, cobwebs hang from the ceiling, and the work seems endless.
Slowly, with the help of forest animals and little gnomes, order begins to emerge. Day by day, the kitchen is cleaned, food is prepared, and the space is transformed into a warm and welcoming place for Christmas.
🇫🇮 Vuoden 2022 kalenterissa Karhu ja Kettu ovat keittiössä valmistelemassa jouluherkkuja. Tupa ei ole joulukunnossa – siivousvälineitä on kaikkialla, katosta roikkuu hämähäkinseittejä ja työ tuntuu loputtomalta.Vähitellen, metsän eläinten ja pienten tonttujen avustuksella keittiö siivotaan, ruoat valmistuvat ja tila muuttuu lämpimäksi ja kutsuvaksi paikaksi joulua varten.
2021 Calendar: A Family Gathering
In the 2021 calendar, the view opens onto a winter village. Snow settles on rooftops, and animals and gnomes quietly prepare for Christmas in the home and the courtyard sauna.
As the days pass and the calendar doors are opened, something new appears. People return to the scene — families gathering indoors, sharing light and warmth. Even as distance and care remain part of everyday life, the village slowly fills with the feeling of Christmas and the comfort of being together again.
🇫🇮 Vuoden 2021 kalenterissa näkymä avautuu talviseen kylään. Lumi laskeutuu kattojen ylle, ja eläimet sekä tontut valmistautuvat hiljaa jouluun kodeissa ja pihasaunassa.Kalenterin luukkujen avautuessa ihmiset palaavat maisemaan – perheet kokoontuvat sisälle, jakamaan valoa ja lämpöä. Vaikka etäisyys ja varovaisuus ovat yhä osa arkea, kylä täyttyy vähitellen joulun tunnelmasta ja yhdessä olemisen lohdusta.
2020 Calendar: Alone at Christmas?
The 2020 calendar was the beginning of the series. Created during a time of uncertainty, when it was unclear whether people could gather to celebrate Christmas together, the story turns to animals and fairy-tale imagery for comfort and closeness.
In this calendar, a small mouse finds an unexpected invitation to a Christmas celebration deep in the forest. As the days pass, the woodland slowly comes alive with light, music, and shared preparations.
🇫🇮 Vuoden 2020 kalenteri oli sarjan alku. Se syntyi epävarmuuden aikana, jolloin ei ollut selvää, voisivatko ihmiset kokoontua viettämään joulua yhdessä. Tarina kääntyy eläinten ja sadunomaisten kuvien puoleen tuodakseen lohtua ja läheisyyden tunnetta.Tässä kalenterissa pieni hiiri saa yllättävän kutsun joulunviettoon. Päivien kuluessa metsä herää vähitellen eloon valosta, musiikista ja yhteisistä valmisteluista.
These calendars are rooted in the Finnish December — a time of darkness, tiredness, and quiet anticipation. Many people feel worn down by the lack of light, even as the season gently asks us to prepare for Christmas.Inspired by the guiding principle of the Finnish Heart Association, “No one is left alone,” the calendars have been shaped from the very beginning by the idea that even in the darkest and most tiring time of the year, December does not have to be faced alone.
🇫🇮 Suomalainen joulukuu on pimeyden ja hiljaisen odotuksen aikaa. Monet kokevat valon puutteen uuvuttavana, vaikka vuodenaika kutsuu meitä lempeästi valmistautumaan jouluun.Suomen Sydänliiton ohjaavasta periaatteesta “Ketään ei jätetä yksin” inspiroituneina kalenterit ovat alusta asti rakentuneet ajatukselle, että vuoden pimeintäkään ja kuormittavinta aikaa ei tarvitse kohdata yksin.
